The V&A will be holding a lecture on Sunday 19 June 2011 on 'W. S. Gilbert's Eminent Victorians'. Bass-baritone actor Martin Lamb and pianist David Eaton will present a lively and suitably boisterous exploration of some of the real-life Victorian figures who feature in, or inspired the characters of the Savoy Operas of Gilbert & Sullivan. In this hour-long lecture Martin will present characters in other guises in HMS Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe and Patience, and will discuss the nature and influence of Victorian iconoclasm and social criticism.
