W.S.Gilbert died on 29th May 1911 whilst trying to rescue a young lady from the lake in his garden at Grims Dyke.
This part is now a bog garden.
There are posts surrounding the lake and on one of these is a memorial plaque.
Here you see the notice - along with Andrew Whittaker, Director of Grims Dyke Opera. Also each year on the anniversary of his death, Paul Follows, Director of Grims Dyke hotel places a wreath of rhododendrons from the gardens on Gilberts grave at Stanmore church.
The notice is seen here more clearly.
My thanks to Patrick Dawson for taking these photographs.
