Patience The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Victoria

October 28th and 29th

Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance in Berlin, FR Germany.

The libretto has been translated to German by Bettina von Leoprechting and Inge Greiffenhagen; this translation was originally prepared for the Wiener Volksoper and will now be heard for the first time in Germany. Performances will take place on October 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23 in the "Saalbau Neukölln", located in the Karl-Marx-Str. 141 - 12043 Berlin. All performances start at 8pm, except the ones on Sundays (Oct. 16, 23) starting at 5pm.

The opera will be produced by the Vocal-Concertisten, a Berlin based chamber choir, experienced in opera productions by a performance of Henry Purcell's "King Arthur" two years ago. Soloists and orchestra will be staffed with professional musicians.

This is going to be a very rare opportunity to experience a Gilbert & Sullivan opera in Germany. The production is under the patronage of Sir Peter Torry, KCMG, the British ambassador in Berlin.

For more details look at the website (in German) Vocal-Concertisten http://www.piratenoper.de

Princess Ida - Kington & District AOC

"The Kington and District Amateur Operatic Society (KADOS) (on the Herefordshire / Mid-Wales border) have recently held auditions for their October production of Princess Ida by Gilbert and Sullivan.

For the first time since HMS Pinafore, the husband and wife team of Stephen and Dilys Hollinghurst will be playing opposite each other and for the first time in a number of years we welcome back John Morgans in a principal role. Unfortunately the part of King Hildebrand remains uncast so any budding Savoyards are asked to contact Lynne Owens the secretary on 01544 267253. Rehearsals are well underway together with rehearsals for the society's annual presentation of Gilbert and Sullivan during Llandrindod's Victorian festival on Tuesday 23rd August.

The remaining cast are: Princess Ida - Dilys Hollinghurst, Hilarion - Stephen Hollinghurst, Cyril - David Hippard, Florian - David Frances, King Gama - John Morgans, Lady Psyche - Lynne Owens, Lady Blanch - Alma Vaughan, Melissa - Jess Squires, Arac - Ray Le Tarouilly, Guron - Rodney Bowdler, Scynthius - Shaun Turner, Saccharissa - Pat Moulds, Chloe - Trish Petersen, Ada - Pam Arnold. The show is directed by Vivien Wardell with musical direction by Paul Wardell.

For the first time, the Society will give two performances at The Pavilion, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, on Tuesday and Wednesday 25th and 26th October, 2005. They will also give two performances at the Lady Hawkins' School, Kington, Herefordshire,  on Friday and Saturday 28th and 29th October
